The Ming Weighing Scale was a project initiated with government support to improve children’s health. UP Mechanical Engineer Professors Manegdeg & Raneses, with the DOH director (name?), visited FPSI & requested to have a 3-way collaboration for weighing infants & children up to 25 kg with the following requirements: flexible, portable, & required to fit in a backpack for ease of transport to 7,107 islands of the Philippines.
Mrs. Amparo Policarpio, a mother & founder of FPSI, supported the idea. With additional collaboration from the Department of Health, Academe, & Manufacturing, the design was finalized with the following: a baby tray for infants, a meter tape for children, a double beam weighing scale, & a foldable design. At the time, Fidel Ramos was the president; hence, the product was named in honor of his wife Mrs. Ming Ramos. It was distributed throughout the Philippines for many years for the prevention of malnourishment & benefit of children’s health.
